Christopher Kopke
Christopher Kopke graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Education majoring in violin performance and pedagogy, a Masters of Music degree (violin performance) and several performance diplomas.
As a professional violinist, he has worked as the Associate Concertmaster of the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, the Concertmaster of the Chamber Orchestra of Geelong and has toured extensively with the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Australian Philharmonic Orchestra, Australian Pops Orchestra, Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Geelong throughout Australia, Europe, Asia and Africa. He has performed with artists such as Rudolf Nureyev, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Sir Harry Secombe, Jose Carreras, Mikis Theodorakis and for the Victorian State Opera and Bolshoi Ballet. He has also performed on numerous commercial soundtracks for film and television.
Chris is currently the Conductor of the Heidelberg Symphony (appointed 1994) and was the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Preston Symphony from 1997 - 2007. He has been a guest conductor of the "Concerto Collection" Orchestra in association with the Australian Broadcasting Commission, the Port Fairy Spring Festival, the Australian Army Band Melbourne and is a regular guest conductor of the Kooyong Chamber Players. He has conducted a live broadcast on ABC Classic FM of Malcolm Williamson's Concerto for 4 Pianos and Wind Quintet, with members of Orchestra Victoria and conducted a highly acclaimed performance with the Toowoomba Chamber Orchestra in association with Joe Chindamo, Australia's premier jazz pianist. He has also worked with and conducted the Monash University Chamber Orchestra.
Apart from being an examiner for the Australian Music Examiners Board (AMEB), he has lectured in string pedagogy at the University of Melbourne and Victoria University. Christopher has toured to New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia & Brunei on behalf of the AMEB, where he has presented clinics and master-classes for young violinists and pedagogical workshops for teachers. He is currently the Head of Strings at Genazzano FCJ College in Melbourne.
