About the Heidelberg Wind Ensemble

Heidelberg Wind Ensemble

french hornThe Heidelberg Wind Ensemble was established in 2007 in order to give opportunities for highly skilled musicians to play interesting and challenging works for this instrumentation, especially those written during the 20th Century.

The aim of one player per part, giving a total of 35-40 musicians, is so that the timbre and balance of the ensemble will allow the music to be heard as its composer intended.

In order that the music can be presented at its very best, the players must be skilled and, preferably, experienced in ensemble playing. Ensemble policy is to have frequent guest artists and thus provide a platform for the many talented young musicians in Melbourne to show their skills in performance and gain invaluable experience. This also, of course, gives local music-lovers a chance to hear a wide range of music which would otherwise go unheard.

All members of the ensemble are required to become members of the Heidelberg Orchestras and pay an annual membership fee.

The HWE will be performing at several venues this year including combined performances with the HSO and other ensembles.
