Concert One features music composed over a period of 200-years beginning with Beethoven’s “Leonore” Overture No. 3 Op.72, of 1806, considered by many audiences as the greatest of the four overtures written for his opera – Fidelio, in an arrangement by British bandmaster Dan Godfrey.

The program looks to the stars and the heavens in works by Dello Joio: “Concertante”; Biebl’s “Ave Maria”; Dinh’s “Spirit and Opportunity” – a celebration of the Mars exploration rovers; Tull’s “The Final Covenant” – the promises made by God to Mankind; Strens’ Danse Funambulesque (1929) – inspired by the death-defying feats of a tightrope walker at the circus, and Cichy’s “Galilean Moons” – reflecting on the disparate qualities of the four Galilean moons of Jupiter.
